Pie Palooza Again Delights Albuquerque on March 14th
Pie Palooza 2019, the 4th annual gathering of Albuquerque pie bakers and pie lovers, will spark joy once more. Every year, inspired pie bakers break out their favorite recipes and donate a homemade pie for this important fundraiser benefitting SAGE Albuquerque.
Pie lovers from around the city gather to enjoy pie slices or take home a whole pie. Pie Palooza is a chance for folks to meet prize winning local pie bakers including several who have won Best of Show at the New Mexico State Fair. Friends can hang out, enjoy a fine piece of pie, complimentary Starbucks coffee and an optional scoop of rich vanilla ice cream.
Other activities include pie walks (chances to win a whole pie), auctions for the most spectacular pies this year, and demonstration on perfect pie crusts.
Pie Palooza is the brainchild of Havens Levitt, a retired math teacher and avid participant in the New Mexico State Fair Pie Contest. “What better way to celebrate the mathematicians’ favorite day, Pi Day – March 14 (or 3.14) – than by enjoying that quintessentially American dessert…pie! And supporting a great cause is just the icing on the cake…I mean the ice cream on the pie.”
Rebecca Dakota is the creator of www.piepals.com, a website for the community of pie bakers and pie lovers. Of Pie Palooza, she says, “Good pie, good people, good cause!”
Pie Palooza 2019 will be held Thursday, March 14 from 4:30 – 7:00 pm at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2801 Lomas Blvd NE (northwest corner of Girard).
SAGE Albuquerque provides support programs for LGBT elders. This year’s Pie Palooza is sponsored by Preferred Assisted Living and Pie Pals.
